Lucas Roldos - Section Editor
Lucas is a PhD candidate in nutrition at McGill University, where he coordinates a soccer league and works as a teaching assistant. His thesis investigates the bidirectional relationship between phytochemicals and the gut microbiome. Beyond volunteering for the CSFJ, he is also a science writer for Examine.com. He believes that education and behavioral change benefit both the self (by improving mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, and sleep) and other people (by promoting responsible social and environmental behaviors). If he’s not discussing a new study or woodworking, he’s probably walking his pup, playing sports, or yelling at children for littering.
Huntley Chang
Huntley has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto. His research was focused on the development of sensors to study insulin-secreting cells and metabolic changes that could lead to diabetes onset. Prior to this, he earned a BASc in Engineering Science, also from the University of Toronto. Huntley enjoys science communication and has previously mentored students as a teaching assistant at the University of Toronto, and in outreach for the Discovery Program. In his spare time, he enjoys running, listening to and making music, and cooking.
Mehar Gill
Mehar is in her final year of the Biomedical Sciences program at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her experience as a research student inspired her to join CSFJ and help younger students develop the skills required for the scientific process at an earlier stage. Working with a team of investigators, the research focused on determining whether metabolic stress coupled with AMPK could affect the activity of early endosomes. She enjoys spending time with friends/family, playing guitar, trying new foods, and reading in her free time. She believes that early experience with research is incredibly beneficial and is excited to help students further their scientific abilities!
Vidhu Jacob
Vidhu is a PhD graduate in Biotechnology from Amrita University, India. She is a dynamic researcher with 6 years of good laboratory practices and an excellent working expertise in the field of point-of-care diagnostics mainly in Cancer and Diabetes. Her field of interests are Nanotechnology, Biosensors and Immunology. She has completed the Applied Clinical Research certification from Mcmaster University. Currently she is working as a librarian at her community in Rycroft, Alberta. She loves working with children and likes to encourage them in bringing their inborn abilities. Beyond her academics, she loves gardening, cooking and listening to podcasts.
Hannah Wood
Hannah is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical and Molecular Science at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She has exceptional time-management skills and a strong work ethic, having grown up and worked on my family's dairy goat farm. She did her undergraduate degree at Trent University in Peterborough, ON. She became fascinated by the gut microbiota and decided to pursue grad school in the microbiology and immunology fields at Queen's U this fall 2021. When she’s not working in the lab, she loves to play badminton, garden, read, play video games and bake.
