In our growing world, the demand for food production is increasing at a rapid rate. By the year 2050, approximately nine billion people will need to be fed (Foley, J., n.d.), which is two billion people more than the worldwide population that we are currently struggling to feed.
At a basic level, the human nervous system can be broken down into two categories: the central nervous system, composed of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, made up of nerves that extend throughout the body.
Whitehorse, “The Wilderness City”, was established at the head of the Yukon River. It has a reputation of having pristine water and air, some of the best in the world. It is home to plentiful wildlife species and untouched wilderness that attracts visitors from across the globe. Situated at the head of the Yukon River, it is before any agricultural or industrial contamination.
The brain is truly a magical organ and it has always fascinated me. My interest in neuroscience has led me to consider complex concepts and issues about the nervous system. The idea for this experiment came from a scenario that I experienced during my volunteering days in a long-term care home. A resident in the home asked me to adjust his shoe on his left foot, as it was hurting him, and he felt the shoe was an ill fit. As I bent down to help him, I was astounded to find that this resident did not have a left foot at all! My research started there.
When the world citizens are called upon to lead a life with minimum impact to the world’s climate, washing after defecation could be the most eco-friendly to the world due to a reduction in paper consumption. To this end, it is also tempting to investigate the level of hygiene one could achieve from wiping compared to washing.
